When the brake fluid has been properly flushed, the pedal should feel normal again if sludge buildup was the problem. There will be a hose between the engine and the booster that provides the vacuum assist, and that should be your first thing to check.

The brake booster uses vacuum from the engine to help increase pressure on the master cylinder. Try pushing in the brake pedal right after you turn off the engine.

If I stop at a stop light with the assist and slowly let up to creep forward and try to push the pedal back down its hard again. Also the e brake light came on but went off after a while.
